A Little Blogging Haiku
Sometimes I find it hard to sit down and start writing a blog post. Anyone else feel that way?
Even when I have an idea of what I want to write about, sometimes staring at that blank computer screen is such a drag.
Tomorrow at our monthly Breakfast Blogging Club meeting, Beth is going to show us some ways to easy into it… almost like tricking your brain into writing. And I’m really looking forward to it.In the meantime, I though I’d share a fun little “brain calisthenics” exercise I do that helps me write. I work on a Haiku poem. I learned about Haiku when I was in college pursuing an Asian Studies minor.
I think there are different forms that have been used over the centuries, but the one I learned and use is the 5-5-7-5 format.
- The first line is 5 syllables
- The second line is 5 syllables
- The third line is 7 syllables
- The fourth line is 5 syllables
I like to work on puzzles. And for me, trying to work out a Haiku poem is a puzzle that helps me get warmed up to write. It’s playing with words, one of my FAVORITE THINGS!
Here’s one I did about a month ago:
Laptop and coffee
Sitting next to friends
Writing, laughing and sharing
Blogging with French toast
Now it’s your turn. Submit your own Blogging Haiku in a comment. Give it a try.
