Starting The Blogging Breakfast Club

Hey, Cheryl here.

BBC imageWhile my lovely and talented colleague has written about some of the steps you can take to deal with the scary blank page, my role as one of your Breakfast Blogging Club servers is to provide some of the business & marketing aspects of blogging.

But first, a little background on how this venture got started.

As a marketing coach and consultant, I try to stay informed about all manner of marketing strategies. You’d have to have been in a coma for the past 2 years not to know about the explosive growth of blogging and social networking as a way to build awareness and attract people to your business.

So for months now I’ve contemplated writing my own blog, but have been hesitant, okay stopped is more like it, for a variety reasons — what to write about, fear of that blank page, the technology, the public exposure (my skin is not thick enough yet, but I know that’s coming…) etc.

I’ve spoken to a lot of bloggers, beginning with an old friend who found her voice and purpose writing about infertility and adoption through this flexible and creative medium.  I read plenty of blogs myself and have compiled a ton of information.  I soon found myself sharing a lot of this information with colleagues, clients and friends. Yet, I still had not started blogging on my own.

Then last fall, I volunteered at a copywriting workshop and was surprised to hear many of the participants rave about having the time set aside to get some writing done…DURING THE WORKSHOP!

So I got to thinking…..if that’s what helps them get the creative writing juices flowing, then there might be others (including moi!) who would also like to have some specific time set aside to concentrate on writing.  Enter my good friend and fellow entrepreneur, Beth Barany — novelist, book coach and creativity consultant – and the perfect partner for getting the Breakfast Blogging Club off the ground!

As she and I start developing the curriculum…which can’t take up too much time during our meetings because we want to leave plenty of time to write…here are some of the topics I’ll be bringing to the group:

*  What to blog about
*  How to promote your blog
*  Building awareness
*  Increasing readership
*  Keeping it fresh and interesting
*  Encouraging comments
*  Combining expertise & humanity
*  Technical resources and information
*  Integrating your blog in social networking
*  Know who you’re writing for

Do you have any additional ideas on what you would like to see covered? Will you be joining us in person? Interested in starting your own blogging club? Let us know.

Your Success Is Inevitable!

Cheryl

    Congrats, Cheryl, on conquering the white space. I know this will be a fantastically helpful breakfast club.*

    I may have to move to the East Bay.
